The InsideOut Project by The Philadelphia Museum of Art is coming to Doylestown April 15 – July 15, 2016. The James A. Michener Art Museum is hosting free Walking Tours from April through July. Discover Doylestown will kickoff the event with the 3rd Annual Taste of Doylestown (April 14, 2016).
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is sharing its art with the Borough of Doylestown. Starting April 15, 2016, thirteen high-quality replicas of Museum masterpieces will find their way into our community. This exciting outdoor exhibition will feature artwork from painters such as Marc Chagall, Andrew Wyeth and Bucks County native Daniel Garber amongst many other masters. Stroll down Main Street, walk through downtown Doylestown and enjoy the InsideOut treasures from the Philadelphia Museum of Art in our very own town. Imagine encountering Paul Gauguin’s “The Sacred Mountain” on your way to dinner or how about taking your family for a picnic in the park by Edward Hicks’ “Noah’s Arc”. Be enchanted by Daniel Garber’s “Quarry Evening” on your way to the James A. Michener Art Museum for a visit of its current exhibit “Garber in Spring”, which includes the return of the original Garber masterpiece “Tanis” for a six-month engagement. For information on the InsideOut project, please visit http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/841.html.
To support this community initiative, The James A. Michener Art Museum will be offering guided one-hour walking tours of the InsideOut installation in April through July. Starting and finishing in the Michener Art Museum lobby at 138 South Pine Street, the tours will be led by specially trained Michener Art Museum docents. The tours are free, but participants are asked to pre-register for the program on the museum website, MichenerArtMuseum.org or call 215-340-9800 x105 or register in person at the Front Desk.
In addition, the walking tours will include highlighted information on the history and happenings of Doylestown, courtesy of The Doylestown Historical Society. As you stroll through town, learn about the InsideOut artwork while hearing about the story of State and Main Street Crossroads, the Civil War Monument and so many other important landmarks in our town. Walking maps will be available at the Michener Museum, the Doylestown Bookshop, the Borough Office, and the Discover Doylestown office. You can also download the free Inside Out app.
